FIFA 2000 Review

Colin Sloan has reviewed FIFA 2000 over at GameSpot. They gave it a score of 9.1 out of 10. Here's some stuff:

While there is some room for improvement, FIFA 2000 delivers on almost every front and is a fast-paced, enjoyable, and challenging soccer game with numerous options and lots of depth. Though you may find yourself wishing FIFA 2000 offered even more, it is ultimately a must for any soccer fan.

Check out the rest of article here.

And now, a little rumour about FIFA 2000 demo; apparently, if you install it in other language than English, you should be able to see other teams playing on your demo (not the usual LA Galaxy vs DC United)... Like in Swedish, they will played Sweden vs Denmark. Kind of cool for a demo, eh? =) I've also add some more FTP sites to download the demo, just in case all of the earlier fails.

Secret Agent Man

Our top secret agent, double-o nine point nine (009.9), nick named "Joe", over at our HQ, Soccer Gaming has just reported his result on the ivestigation about the issue to play FIFA Soccer (FIFA 99/FIFA 2000) over the net. Here's what he said that can be revealed to public eyes. =)

I (Joe Lemon), for the past few weeks have investigated the possiblity to play FIFA 99/FIFA 2000, online, at heat.net. After numerous attempts, with people who said they have played, I could never get in game, none the less, couldn't even get a connection. I followed every instruction, that heat.net told me. After all of this, I have come to the conlusion; that there is a way to play it online, that is, if you can take all the time, to download the heat software, wait for it to update everytime you log on, switch your protocol to IPX, troubleshoot, find a person who actually knows what there doing(which is about 1/50), make sure your connection is fast enough, and finally make sure your using Windows 95 (Not Windows 98). If you find a faster way, please send it in, I will be sitting here, waiting to find someone who knows what's going on.

Secret agent Joe signing off...

So, if you guys know how exactly to do this, please tell Joe at this address: . He also told me that he is on his next mission, investigating kali.net. We will keep you updated when he has accomplished his mission.

Oh, and just reminding you guys, we will reached 500K very soon now, and I do mean: very... It's already 499929 when I write this. So don't forget to send the screen shot of the page. Here's the link to that page.

500k!

I checked the statistics some minutes ago and I saw it has reach an amazing high number. When this was written the counter showed 493.677 unique visitors. This mean the we will reach 500.000 visitors in some few hours from now! I just want to say thank you to all the visitors here, which has made the number so very high! Yesterday, 29th October we also had a new record, 17822 visitors!

If you are the lucky 500k visitor, please take a screenshot of the counter and send it in to us. The statistic for FIFA 2000 Online can be viewed at this page.

FIFA Cup Tournament

I have just received a mission statement from Steven Lee. Here's what he has said to me:

I'm organising a tournament for all players of either FIFA 99 or FIFA 2000. The FIFA Cup will be a one off knockout competition run along similar lines to the F.A. Cup. There will be prize money available (at least £150 to the winner) and a real trophy! Everyone that registers can also enter a draw to win a copy of FIFA 2000. You can check out the website at http://www.fifacup.co.uk.

This concept is a first for FIFA modem gamers. Most competitions available at the moment ask you to register using one of the teams in FIFA. So the poeple who register first get the good teams. With this, all you do is make up your own team name, and you can then choose any FIFA team. So everyone starts from a level playing field.

Depending on the number of entrants, the prize money might well increase. At the moment this tournament is open to UK gamers only. However, I would invite anyone who plays FIFA to visit the site and contact me to state their interest. In time, I'm hoping to develop a competition for each country that shows interest in the idea.

Steven also said to me that he has just started to publicize FIFA Cup, so he don't expect the tournament to begin until late November. Well, you still here? Go to FIFA Cup already!

Oh, and just in case you are still having problems with that demo servers, I've added a new one to the demo page.

Discovers at EA's FTP server

When I tried to find mirrors to the demo, I logged my self in on the EA's FTP server. I discovered that there were 8 small movies from FIFA 2000, taken from in the game. Four are taken from the PC version and the rest of them are from the PSX. The file size is between 1-2 MB and almost all of them last in around 10 seconds. Some of them has music too. Click here to go to the directory which the movies lay in.

FIFA 2000 PSX Review

While we all are downloading the demo which I'm sure many of you feels will take approximately 100 years (only 1kb/sec for me), we can read the review Console Domain have done of the PSX version of FIFA 2000. Here's a little snippet:

Unfortunately, several aspects of the game have remained unchanged, which I would like to have seen altered. Firstly, the player intelligence could have been improved, especially off-the-ball movement. For example, when making a break down the wing, your teammates seem reluctant to move into the desired space away from the defenders, so most of the time it is easier to simply run with the ball, rather than risk losing possession.

The review describes pro and cons about the PSX version. Click here to read the entire review.

Well, I'm sure this is the time that all of you FIFA 2000 fans out there has been waiting for besides the game itself and the cheat codes... =) And the plus, they released it on time. Ronaldo Patch

Do you remember that Ronaldo wasn't present in FIFA 99? Well, apparently, he won't in FIFA 2000 too. The difference is that this time he will be known as "No.9" for Inter and Brazil. That's because EA Sports doesn't have the license to have his name in the game :(
Thanks to FIFA 2000 Online Denmark you can know fix that problem with a patch they have created. I talked with the creator, Søren and his says that there is no trouble with it. The patch must be unzipped in the fifa2000/user directory. So if you want his name back, be sure to download this patch (182 bytes).

    Gamespot UK Movie

I'm sure that many of you guys remember that I posted this movie over at FIFA 2000 Network. The reason why I'm posting it again is because I am one hundred percent sure that most of you haven't seen it. For a week ago Gamespot UK released a 44 MB big movie about Sol Campbell and his participation in FIFA 2000. You can also see clips from the intro movie and from inside the game. I'm sure many of you want to see this movie and it is obviously that if you don't have a faster connection than 56K modem you don't want to download 44.65 MB. Lucky for you, I have now compressed the 44 MB to only 2.39 MB! You must think that it suffer lack of image quality now, but that is not it in this case. For those of you that means that an image says more than thousand words, I taken some screenshots from the 44 MB version. You can see them below:

Note! Please ignore the URL which are on the screenshots.

Again I'm telling you that you should download this movie! Click here to take down the big (44.65 MB) version and here for the small version (2.39 MB).

FIFA 2000 contains a lot of “detailed” improvements, which may be overlooked, but the sum of the new improvements add up to give the game a different feel. The game has 15 different leagues including the addition of the Major League Soccer from the US and there are also 40 classic league teams if you want to browse through the “good ole days.” EA has crammed in enough modes of play such as training, leagues, and tournaments to keep users busy for months.

    GA Sports Previews FIFA 2000

My buddy Humberto 'Salty' Dominguez from GA Sports has finished his preview of FIFA 2000. Here's a taste:

FIFA 2000 appears well on its way to capturing the imagination of footy gamers around the globe. The game has plenty to offer, and establishes a firm balance between visual joy and smooth playability. Surprisingly, the game’s main competitor is now its kin, FIFA 99, and time will tell whether EA SPORTS’ latest footy chapter is indeed lined with similar market success.

I'm sure you've all got a bunch of questions you'd like to ask about FIFA 2000. Instead of emailing us, visit the FIFA 2000 Forum, and post them there. Either myself or Ric will be happy to answer your questions, and you never know, maybe some other people on the net may be able to help you out as well.

    Leagues and Teams

I have added a list of all the leagues and teams from FIFA 2000 to the site. This one of the most frequent asked questions I received through e-mail from all of you. This is the complete list, and no more changes will be made to it. Remember that FIFA 2000 has gone gold, that means it is a finished product. Thanks to Ric from Soccer Gaming fo taking his time and writing them all down. But now, head on over to the big list you've all been waiting for.

    This -N- That

WOW! Nice quick preview by Matt here... I am just downloading 68 more screen shots of FIFA 2000. From what I have seen, these screen shots look GREAT. They have all kinds of different screen shots, from menu's to fouls and stadiums to every detail. These should wake your interest if the other ones haven't already.

    Long Range Goals are Back!

Yes, that's right guys! The long range goals that were absent from FIFA 99 are well and truely alive in FIFA 2000. I have been playing FIFA 2000 quite a bit in the past few days. Overall I have played around 20 full games, and have either scored or seen 4 long range goals. Which works out to be a long range screamer every 5 games, pretty much the same amount you'll see in real life.

Also very impressive is the number of long range shots that clearly miss the goals. Unlike previous FIFA's, in FIFA 2000 a simple tap of the shoot button won't always send the ball soaring for the top corner of the goal. Quite often the ball will fly off the side of the boot and finish up at the back of the grandstand.

Something else I have noticed is the immense preasure the defence now puts on the ball carrier. On a number of occasions I found myself having to result to passing the ball backwards simply to open up the play a bit more (very realistic).

There are stacks more injuries, and the keeper no longer simply punches the ball away then stands on his line to watch an attacker swoop on it. He now follows through and scrambles frantically to the ball before anyone else can touch it. Check out a screen shot I took of the keeper taking out a player who looked destined to score.

As Ric mentioned at Soccer Gaming, we'll have a full review of the game posted on the official FIFA 2000: Major League Soccer release date; October 26th. Until then we'll continue to post our personal opions and let you know about all the new features we encounter.

Remember to pre-order your copy of FIFA 2000 for only $32.99 by clicking here.

Nicky has been a bit busy recently, so I thought I'd do the honours and post some of the new screen shots I've taken from FIFA 2000 in the Screen Shots section. Nine in all have been added, including this picture of the main menu. If I can drag myself away from my gamepad for long enough, I'll take heaps more shots and post them shortly.

    AllAdvantage

I recently found out about a program called AllAdvantage. They will pay you for being online. All you have to do is display a banner in your browser. They even pay you for referring other people and their time online. I didn't know if this was real or just a scam, so I tried it. Yesterday I received a check for $67.00. It's great. You can sign up here. It's really worth it.
